August 27, 2001 was one of the greatest days of my life. I'll never forget that awesome BSB concert I went to... I was pumped the whole time... It was GREAT... but anyways... I'll get to my review...
For those of you who read the Kansas City star's review of the Kansas City BSB concert, the end of the concert was not like the way that the KC Star pop writer Timmothy Finn interpreted it as. He failed to notice several things. I'll explain that later though.
Well, at the start of the evening, I got dressed up for the BSB concert. Like many of you already know, I wore my BRIGHT red shirt that never fades, my corderoys, my platforms, and my rainbow choker, my yellow shades, and my BSB FUN CLUB pin. I also brought ear plugs in case I thought the music was too loud (since I needed ears in choir & orchestra the next day, so I tried not to kill them too terribly much.) I took my green glowstick that my mom put in my stocking for Christmas about 7 months ago. Since dropping it may have activated the glow, and I accidently dropped it more than a few times, so I didnt exactly know if it was going to work. But I took it anyway. I did not drink the contents (lol @ what stupid things they print as warnings on packages)....
Before the concert started, my Aunt Jo-Jo & I went to Osco, and we got a disposable camera, because APPARENTLY, according to the lady that we spoke with who knew the rules for Kemper Arena concerts, there are NO posters, video, audio, or Cameras, EXCLUDING disposable ones, so I took a disposable one.
When we got to Kemper Arena, they had not opened the doors yet. Mix 93.3 and Z95.7 (Two popular radio stations in my city that are entralled in big competition with each other) were right there, and they both had their tents right next to each other, too. (lol) Then, Mix93.3 were handing out these BSB sticker patches, and they were explaining to the BSB fans, that, during Sisqo's performance, they would search the audience, and pick a few people that were wearing those patches, to upgrade their seats to 1ST ROW! They said that they had to put their patches in a VISABLE area, or they couldn't be picked. So me & my Aunt got the patches, and we put them on. But, like many of the people who wore the patches, I didnt get picked. I also entered in a drawing for autographed BSB mags, and too, like many contests I have entered, I didn't win,...which is THE USUAL.
So we waited outside in the HOT weather, then, they FINALLY opened the doors. We went inside, bought some bottled wather (Smart Idea), and we found our seats (which were 14th row, left of stage somewhere out in section 103). We were about 50 feet from the endstage. Then, the opening acts started. Krystal Harris was the first opening act. She was REALLY GOOD! When I get money, I WILL get her CD "Me & My Piano". Sisqo had good vocals, but I couldnt say much anything else good about his chemistry with the audience, or his rapping friends that came along with him onstage. He just WASN'T family material suited for the typical Backstreet crowd. and his set was VERY VERY VEEERRRRRYYY BLARINGLY LOUD- I had to wear my earplugs so I didnt burst my eardrums during his set. He performed a variety of his songs, including the "Thong Song", "In my bedroom", "incomplete", "return of the dragon" & so on.......
After Sisqo was done performing, there was some extra time in between because they were setting up for BSB... so I pulled out my earplugs (because I could now stand the noise levels) then my aunt went, and got me a poster, and a program. She really did spoil me... and well, I'm not really used to being so spoiled... really, I'm not. Well, turns out, my glowstick (that I dropped a good 50 times or more before I got to opening it...) it really did work! It had a greenish glow. Everyone else had the B&B one that they bought there at the venue, while I had my unusually bright green one. I guess I have a different glow than everyone else...lol- never feel afraid to be different! it could mean the difference between being clearly noticed by the guys, or not being noticed at all.
Then, I heard a group of girls screaming, but I didnt know where it was all coming from. I figured that the girls were screaming "for the hell of it", because I've seen many BSB fans do that kind of thing before. I didnt go & see what it was, although a I had a feeling that I SHOULD have gone to see what it was if I could've figured out where it was coming from. Well, Turns out, the girl behind me went to go see what it was, and she came happily parading down the aisle with Kev's autograph scribbled on the back of her "lucky" shirt. She came back talking about how HE gave her a hug & everything. damn girl is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky. I should have known that Kev was sneaking around in the audience because he was visiting his in-laws from KC (For those of you who dont know, Kev's wife, Kristin's family, lives in either Kansas City, Kansas, and/or Overland Park, Kansas.) However, I still do wonder... how in the hell did Kev manage in pulling it off? lol...
